Scene 1, Act 1
In 2008, AIG gave Barack Obama $130,000. What’s more, AIG gave Sen. Chris Dodd $103,100 in 2008. Clearly, each of these men received quite a bonus from AIG. Oh, and that was just for 2008.
Scene 2, Act 1
Chris Dodd and/or those representing him ensured that the February’s “stimulus” bill included provisions for AIG to pay bonuses totaling $165 million to 73 of its executives. All but 7 of the House Democrats (246) and all 60 Senate Democrats (including Chris Dodd) voted those provisions for bonuses into law with the “stimulus” bill. Just 3 Republicans voted for the stimulus.
Scene 2, Act 2
AIG, in accordance with US law, paid the promised bonuses to 73 executives. This act was both contractually mandated (which according to the US Constitution the federal government may not supersede) and lawfully prescribed by 246 House Democrats and all 60 Democrat Senators…
